Huddersfield Town's four-match winning streak was halted by a 1-1 draw with Luton Town at the John Smith's Stadium. A defensive lapse cost them a first-half lead before a lack of finishing precision prevented them from reclaiming it after the break.

Joe Taylor's 49th-minute equaliser, his ninth goal of the season, cancelled out Jordan Clark's opener for the visitors. The point keeps Huddersfield top of the League One standings with 28 points from 13 games, maintaining a two-point cushion over Stockport County. Their recent form remains strong, unbeaten in five with four wins and this draw.

First-half dominance undone

Huddersfield had the better of the opening period, creating a series of chances. Cameron Humphreys saw a 13th-minute corner drop onto the roof of the net, and his second effort seven minutes later was tipped over by Luton keeper James Shea. Marcus Harness and Taylor also forced saves, while Archie Collins volleyed wide from a long throw. The hosts' early pressure was nearly rewarded when a flowing move ended with Sorba Thomas firing a low shot that Shea parried, only for the rebound to be cleared from the toes of an onrushing attacker.

Against the run of play, a defensive error proved costly. San Roughan overcommitted to a long ball in the 41st minute, allowing Luton to break. Former Barnsley man Jordan Clark finished from a Kasey Palmer pass to put the Hatters ahead.

Missed opportunities after the break

Taylor headed Huddersfield level early in the second half, connecting with a Derensili Sanches Fernandes cross. The Terriers pushed for a winner, with Fernandes hitting the post and beating his man on multiple occasions, but the final ball repeatedly eluded a blue-and-white striped shirt. Bali Mumba created openings down the left, and Radinio Balker was alert to snuff out Luton counter-attacks. Substitute Josh Koroma injected pace late on, cutting inside to curl an effort just over the bar, while a last-gasp scramble from a corner saw the ball bounce agonisingly wide.

Luton manager Jack Wilshere pointed to the fine margins that decided the match. "Even in England's third tier you need to be clinical at both ends," he said.

The result ends a run of four straight wins for both sides. Huddersfield, the division's top scorers with 27 goals, will now prepare for a trip to face Wycombe Wanderers in their next fixture on 14 November. Taylor, the team's leading marksman, will be central to their plans as they look to extend their lead at the summit.
