Huddersfield Town captain Ryan Ledson has been banned for three matches and fined by the Football Association for misconduct. The sanction relates to alleged abusive and insulting language directed towards a match official around the tunnel area during and after the draw with Sheffield Wednesday.
Ledson, who was not in the matchday squad for that fixture, accepted the charge. "I accept the charge," the midfielder said. The suspension will see him miss upcoming games against Wigan Athletic, Bradford City, and Luton Town.
His absence comes as Huddersfield sit second in League One on 22 points after 11 games, with a record of six wins, four draws and one defeat. The team is in strong form, unbeaten in their last five matches, a run of four wins and a draw. They have scored 22 goals this season while conceding only 10. They host Wigan at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday, a fixture Ledson will now watch from the sidelines. Wigan currently sit 24th in the table. This match follows a convincing 4-1 victory over Peterborough on Tuesday 20 October, where Joe Taylor scored twice to take his season tally to eight goals, making him the club's top scorer.
The captain has made several League One starts this season but has not featured recently due to an elbow injury. His disciplinary issue occurred during a period where the team has continued to perform strongly, with recent wins including a 2-0 victory at Plymouth on Saturday 17 October and a 5-0 thrashing of Rochdale on Tuesday 6 October. Manager André Breitenreiter will now need to plan for the next three games without his skipper, with the squad's depth set to be tested. The club's full fixtures list shows a busy period ahead.
