Huddersfield Town striker Ashley Fletcher is looking to 'keep progressing' with his new side after rediscovering his love for football at his former club Blackpool. Prior to his time with the Seasiders, Fletcher had three loan stints with New York Red Bulls, Wigan Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday during a three-year spell at Watford. The striker scored just four goals in those years, before going on to net 32 times across a productive two-season stint with Blackpool. When it was put to him at a recent press conference that he had previously fallen out of love with football, summer recruit Fletcher said: 'I did, it was really obvious as well. 'I'd spent a few years on loan at different clubs, and hadn't really found a home until I went to Blackpool. I've spoken before about having an unbelievable manager in Steve Bruce who looked after me, and just basically got me playing back to my usual standards, and obviously from that, he lost his job, and Ian Evatt came in, and again was fantastic for me. 'It was just one of those things where you kind of lose your way a little bit, and then you find a little bit of a home, but for me I wanted to come to the club and keep progressing, and keep improving on what I'd already done really.' Asked what he was looking for in a manager to bring the best out of him, the forward added: 'I think trust really, I think someone who knows my game inside out. 'I think everyone has the assumption, big six-foot-five striker and let's lump it up to him, obviously you have to be good at that side, but predominantly I like to play the balls on the floor and make runs in behind, and all that kind of stuff, so I wouldn't say I'm your typical target man. 'I think to be fair, Steve and Ian, they knew that, and that's how they got me playing my best football, and I feel like the manager Martin (Drury), I think he's understood that as well, and Jon Stead, who's probably very similar to how I used to play as well. He sees a lot of correlations between us both, so fingers crossed, that's hopefully the way it should go.' Discussing his personal aims for the campaign, Fletcher said: 'For myself, I just want to improve on last year, that's the main thing, and if I can do that, then hopefully we should have a good season. 'Anything around that would be fantastic of course (the 21 goals he scored last term), but I believe that with the squad that we have and the whole club in general, if we're not up there pushing around that, then it would be unjust really, so anything around those numbers would be fantastic really. 'I think first and foremost for me, it's just about playing well in the game, and then I believe that goals and assists will come off that.' Fletcher has started both of Town's matches this term, and discussing what he's looking to bring to the side this campaign, the striker said: 'To be reliable, to be the link player, be the number nine who can drop in and also link the play. 'Then we've got unbelievable quality either side, and then obviously players, Joe Taylor, Bojan (Radulovic), George Sebine as well, so we're all in a good mix really to attack the season. 'I think I can be adaptable, I think that's one of the reasons why they brought me to the club, is I can play a few positions. I love playing in a two, but I can also play as a nine and I can also play as a ten as well, so whatever the manager sees fit really, and the quality of attacking players that we have, I'm sure there'll be competition for places.
