Huddersfield Town forward Joe Taylor has received his first senior call-up to the Wales national team. The 23-year-old will miss the Terriers' League One fixture away to Burton Albion on October 3 as a result.
Wales manager Craig Bellamy confirmed the selection. "Taylor did not make the initial Wales squad for upcoming Nations League fixtures but has been drafted in following the withdrawal of Wrexham’s Nathan Broadhead," Bellamy said.
Taylor, who joined Huddersfield from Luton Town in January 2025 and spent the latter half of that season on loan at Wigan Athletic, has been in fine form this term. He is the club's top scorer with five goals in seven League One appearances, a key reason why the side sits fourth in the table on 12 points.
His absence for the trip to the Pirelli Stadium is a blow for manager Michael Duff, who will have to plan without his most potent attacking threat. The club will hope defender Radinio Balker, who is expected to return from injury in time for the match, can bolster the back line.
Wales face Portugal on September 24 and Denmark on September 27, followed by a home game against Norway and a return trip to Denmark. Taylor, who has represented Wales at youth level but is yet to win a senior cap, will be aiming to make his debut during the international break.
Huddersfield's form has been mixed recently, with their last result a 2-1 defeat away to Bromley. The full squad list and player statistics are also available on our squad and stats pages.
Burton Albion currently occupy 12th place in League One, setting up an important match for the Terriers as they look to stay in the promotion chase, just three points behind leaders Bradford City. Following the Burton game, Huddersfield Town's next fixture is at home to Stevenage on October 3.
