Rhys Healey has joined non-league Southport, concluding his Huddersfield Town career after a brief and injury-disrupted spell. The 31-year-old striker's contract at the John Smith's Stadium was terminated by mutual agreement with immediate effect in early June.
Healey arrived from Watford in the 2024 winter window as a significant signing. His time in West Yorkshire was defined by a succession of frustrating injuries, limiting his impact. He scored three goals in 11 games during the second half of the 2023-24 season before spending the following campaign on loan at Barrow, where he made just one appearance. Last season, he made 11 appearances for Town and found the net on two occasions.
His move to Southport in the National League North marks a new chapter after a career that included spells at Cardiff City and Watford. He had previously enjoyed prolific form in France with Toulouse, scoring 34 league goals in two seasons and winning promotion to Ligue 1.
Huddersfield Town, meanwhile, are focusing on their current campaign under new management. Their recent form reads two wins, two draws and one defeat from the last five outings.
