Ashley Fletcher labelled Huddersfield Town's first League One defeat of the season a 'familiar story' after their six-match unbeaten run ended at Bromley. The Terriers lost 2-1 at Hayes Lane on Saturday despite Fletcher netting his first goal for the club.
JJ McKiernan put the hosts ahead early, but Fletcher levelled on the stroke of half-time. Mickel Miller's winner 19 minutes from time secured the points for the Ravens and left Town reflecting on a missed opportunity.
"We felt we did more than enough obviously to not only draw the game, but win the game," said Fletcher, the forward signed from Blackpool in the summer. The goal was his first in nine appearances for Huddersfield, a wait that had caused him significant frustration.
"No-one’s been as frustrated as I have, and I think the most frustrating thing for me is that I feel like I’ve been playing really well in the games as well," he added.
The defeat sees Huddersfield remain fourth in the League One table with 12 points from seven games, but they are now three points behind leaders Bradford. The result also checked a positive recent run of form that had seen them win two and draw two of their previous five matches.
Fletcher's strike, assisted by Cameron Humphreys, was a positive personal moment in a disappointing team display. The club's main goal threat this season has been J. Taylor, who has five goals in seven appearances, and the team will need both forwards firing as they look to bounce back.
Attention now turns to the next fixture at the John Smith's Stadium. Huddersfield host Luton Town, who are 16th, on Saturday 26 September. Check the full schedule on our fixtures page.
