Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle has reflected on a steep learning curve in his three years at the club, admitting he was "probably impatient" for success. The 71-year-old American completed his takeover in the summer of 2023, but has since seen the Terriers relegated from the Championship and miss out on the League One play-offs in the two subsequent seasons.
Speaking in an interview, Nagle said the main lesson has been patience. "Well, to be a little bit more patient," he said. "I do typically tend to be patient, but I was probably impatient for a period here." His comments come as the team enjoys a strong start to the current campaign, sitting second in League One with 12 points from six unbeaten games.
Off-field strides and community focus
Nagle pointed to significant off-field progress at the John Smith's Stadium, but stressed that this must now be matched by growth on the pitch. He is keen to breathe life into the wider West Yorkshire community as well as the football club itself, drawing on a lifetime of community work through his business ventures. "The investment has been far, far greater than any return so far," Nagle stated. "But I feel the community needs economic vitality. We can help with that."
While not often present at the club day-to-day, the owner expressed a desire to get more involved locally, believing economic prosperity is vital for Huddersfield. He reiterated that the club will exist beyond his ownership and should be left in a better state than he found it.
Building on a positive start
The immediate focus returns to the pitch, where Michael Duff's side are firmly in the early promotion picture. They are just one point behind leaders Sheffield Wednesday, having scored 10 goals and conceded only four. Top scorer J. Taylor has five goals in six appearances, contributing to a recent run of three wins and two draws from the last five matches. The latest result was a 0-0 draw at Mansfield Town last Saturday.
