Ashley Fletcher says Huddersfield Town would have accepted their current league position at the start of the season. The striker made the claim after a 2-1 defeat at Bromley ended the team's unbeaten start to the League One campaign.

Fletcher, who scored Town's goal at Hayes Lane, spoke to BBC Radio Leeds following the Saturday loss. He pointed to the broader picture of a squad that has taken 12 points from its first seven matches. Huddersfield sit fourth in the table, a position he believes represents a successful opening phase.

"I think we've made a really good start to the season coming here unbeaten and then obviously we lost today, but it can't overshadow the work that we've done since pre-season," Fletcher said. "I think we all would've taken that at the start of the season."

The forward acknowledged a need for greater ruthlessness in front of goal. Town have managed just two goals from 55 shots across their last three league outings, a run that has yielded two draws and this defeat. Fletcher described the squad assembled by manager Martin Drury as "really top drawer" but said they must start converting their chances.

Despite the recent dip, the early season form includes victories against AFC Wimbledon, Cambridge United, and Oxford United. Ten points were taken from the opening four fixtures, providing a solid platform. The team now has a two-week break before returning to action.

Huddersfield's next fixture is away to Burton Albion on 3 October. Burton currently sit seventh, one place behind Town in the standings. Fans can check the full schedule on the club's fixtures page. The team will be looking to rediscover their scoring touch, with Jonathon Taylor leading the way this season with five goals. The break offers a chance to reset ahead of a key period in the calendar.
