Huddersfield Town head coach Martin Drury said he is 'praying' for injured players to be fit for a demanding week of fixtures. The Terriers, who sit fourth in League One on 16 points, travel to face table-topping Plymouth Argyle this weekend before a midweek match against Peterborough United.
Drury's squad was hit hard during the 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at the Accu Stadium. Influential centre-backs Radinio Balker and Murray Wallace were forced off, while in-form winger Derensili Sanches Fernandes was substituted with a minor knee issue. "We're still waiting for two to come back from injury and then we've had three go off on Saturday," Drury said. "We had a few bruised bodies on Monday, so we'll have to look into that."
Midfielders Ryan Ledson and David Kasumu are hoped to return to full training this week but are unlikely to be ready for the trip to Home Park. A return for the home game against Wigan Athletic on October 24 is more probable. Marcus McGuane and Jack Whatmough also remain absent from the first-team squad.
Praise for Collins
Archie Collins, who provided assists for both Huddersfield goals against Wednesday, was praised by the head coach. Drury called the midfielder a great person and good footballer who has worked hard despite a lack of pre-season. Collins himself said he was happy to contribute but wants to keep improving after his side let a two-goal lead slip late on.
Joe Taylor opened the scoring in the 46th minute, with Sanches Fernandes adding a second in the 68th. An own goal in the 88th minute and a Jamal Lowe penalty deep into added time saw the points shared. You can review the full list of fixtures and standings as the season progresses.
With defensive cover thin, Joe Low, Sean Roughan and the versatile Ibane Bowat will be called upon. "I'm praying that some of these players are fit and they'll come through OK this week," Drury added. "But it'll be a difficult week. We have to look at everyone and see where we're at next week."
The challenge begins away at Plymouth on Saturday, with the Terriers looking to close a three-point gap to the leaders. Check the latest squad news ahead of the match.
