Huddersfield Town wrap up fifth signing of the summer
Huddersfield Town have signed winger Derensili Sanches Fernandes from Dutch Eredivisie side Excelsior Rotterdam on a four-year deal. The 25-year-old becomes the Terriers’ fifth summer arrival after spending most of his career with his hometown club.
What the new Huddersfield Town winger brings to the Terriers
Fernandes has made over 100 appearances for Excelsior, scoring 20 goals from the right flank. His best campaign came in 2024/25, when he contributed 20 goal involvements in 37 games to help Excelsior win promotion back to the Dutch top flight. Last season in the Eredivisie he scored six times and added three assists in 34 appearances.
Why the move to Huddersfield Town felt right for Fernandes
The Dutchman said his first season in the Eredivisie was his best to date. He added that talks with Sporting Director Chris and head coach Martin Drury left him in no doubt about joining the Terriers. Fernandes also pointed to the experience of former teammate Ilias Bronkhorst, who moved to Huddersfield earlier this summer.
Fernandes told the club’s official website: “Last season was amazing for me, and I was so happy to have played my part in helping Excelsior stay in the Eredivisie and achieve their goals. That success has brought interest this summer, but I was determined to only entertain offers that felt right both on and off the pitch, and Huddersfield Town left me with no doubts after speaking and learning more.”
Martin Drury’s verdict on the new signing
Town boss Drury said he was excited to work with Fernandes. He praised the player’s versatility, confidence and attacking appetite. Drury added: “He can play wide or inside, and has a real appetite to take the ball and attack the opposition. He has an air of confidence and a love for the game, which really impressed us when we met him.”
The Terriers will now focus on supporting Fernandes as he adapts to life in England and the Championship. The club expects him to make an immediate impact under Drury’s management.
