Huddersfield Town are gearing up for a third consecutive campaign in League One, and sporting director Chris Markham says there will be some evolution in the playing squad this summer. The Terriers ended up eight points adrift of the play-off places last season, missing out on promotion to the Championship for a second time following their relegation from the second tier in 2024. Martin Drury has been appointed as the new head coach, with Jon Stead as his assistant, after Liam Manning's departure from the club. Drury inherits a side that has seen eight departures from the squad since the end of the campaign, including Mickel Miller, who was released by the club, and Ruben Roosken, who was sold to Oxford United. The club currently has 23 first-team players under contract for next season, leaving little room for manoeuvre unless further departures are sanctioned. Markham said the club is contingency planning for different outcomes in the transfer window, which opens on June 15 and closes on September 1. He added that the club is looking to bring in younger players to improve athleticism. The club's academy had a successful season last year, and some of the young players will be involved in pre-season training. Markham's conversations with Kevin Nagle, the club's owner, are focused on winning, and he is working closely with Drury to identify the right players to bring in. The transfer window is expected to be fluid, with the club needing to get the right outs to bring in new players. Drury's press conference unveiling saw Markham discuss the club's plans, and he said the squad needs some additions to evolve. The club is looking to be smarter in the transfer market, and Markham is confident that they are well-prepared for the summer ahead. With the new head coach in place, the club is looking to build on last season's ninth-placed finish and push for promotion to the Championship.
